England - World Cup History

The England national football team did not compete in the first three FIFA World Cup tournaments but has participated in all 19 subsequent editions, starting in 1950. They have failed to qualify for the finals three times: in 1974 (West Germany), 1978 (Argentina), and 1994 (United States). Additionally, they have not advanced past the group stage on three occasions: in 1950, 1958, and 2014. England's best achievement came in 1966 when they won the World Cup as the host nation. They also finished in fourth place in 1990 (Italy) and 2018 (Russia). Beyond these, the team reached the quarter-finals on seven other occasions, with their most recent appearance being in 2022 (Qatar).
